Lowndes County Court Judge Kizer to take oath Jan. 2 in Columbus

An investiture ceremony for new Lowndes County Court Judge Allison Pritchard Kizer will be held Jan. 2 at 9 a.m. at the Lowndes County Courthouse in Columbus.

Retiring Lowndes County Court Judge Beverly Mitchell Franklin will administer the oath of office. Judge Franklin, who has served since Jan. 1, 1987, will retire Dec. 31.

Judge Kizer, 48, has served as Lowndes County Prosecutor since 2012. Her private law practice has included family law, criminal law and practice in Youth Court. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in paralegal studies from Mississippi University for Women and a law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

Across the state, 42 new judges will take their oaths of office in ceremonies scheduled during the next three weeks. New judges include three new Court of Appeals judges, 20 new Chancery Court judges, nine new Circuit Court judges and 10 new County Court judges. New judicial terms begin on Jan. 1, 2019.
